A midweek moment of reflection! Bison, our national mammal, can weigh up to 2,000 pounds and stand six feet tall, making them the largest land mammal in the United States. The saving of the bison in the early 1900s is one of the greatest conservation success stories of all time, and the Bronx Zoo played an important role in that effort. We continue our tradition of using science-based solutions both in the field and in our parks to conserve these beautiful bovines and help maintain a viable wild population.
