Next up in our #MakingWaves series is abalone intern, Livy Herman! Livy interned through Santa Monica High School's Learning Through Interest program where she worked under aquarist, Katie. Livy's projects involved determining the rate of biofouling on abalone shells, the efficacy of shellfish tags/glues, and general marine husbandry. Livy heard about TBF's abalone lab after going on a boat excursion with CEO Tom Ford. She has been interested in pursuing a career in marine biology, so she thought TBF would be the perfect place to learn! She feels that this internship has helped her learn how to design a scientific project, what it is like to be a marine biologist in different specialties, and how to take care of marine invertebrates. In her free time, Livy enjoys SCUBA diving, surfing, and biking! Thank you Livy for being an amazing addition to our team! We will miss you!
