Here is a segment of my composition “Hacienda y Capataz” playing it for the first time @sfjazz Miner Auditorium at rehearsal. The song alludes to the One-Sided and often Hypocritical relationship between the US and Puerto Rico. A relationship in which the well being on the island has never been a priority, with the 1920 Jones Act (merchant marine act of 1920) at the forefront of the situation. The law has been a Major Impediment for the island to have true economic development, and systematically has crippled any possibilities of growing. The piece is a small tribute to Puerto Rico’s resiliency despite of all the symptoms of colonialism, and despite of being treated as a property where the foreman oversees the land or as a tenant paying rent to the landlord. @sfjazzcollective will be performing new compositions from Today Nov27-30 #puetorico🇵🇷 ✊🏾✊🏾❤️🙏🏾
