Hello lovelies,
So I apologise in advance for my dishevelled appearance and delirium...I am feeling quite unwell. Ho ho ho Christmas time!
But it got me thinking about how physically Xmas can take it's toll on many, but even more so, Xmas can take its toll mentally too.
I am going to sign off for a few days so I am able & ready for the trip home to Hull ahead of the big move into our new @seedsupportuk Resource Room, but I didn't want to leave you without a little message of support and (hopefully) some useful tips to help you get through, whether you are directly affected by an #eatingdisorder, or if you are a loved one.
š± Pre plan. I always found knowing what was coming during the festive period a huge help & then would talk through with Mum & Dad, what I felt about each scenario & how I might best be able to get through it.
š± Communicate. As with pre planning, it is so important to have this dialogue with those you are spending Xmas with. If you're alone, communicate with your support worker or even your own thoughts. Be present & be brave with acknowledging your feelings. They are so important.
š± Be prepared that things can change & make sure you have a code or understanding of what might happen if something occurs that isn't expected.
š± Praise what's been achieved rather than scowl at what hasn't. Give yourself the credit you deserve & celebrate the small wins.
š± Respect those around you & make boundaries. Xmas is about the whole family & it's important to make sure the ED doesn't take over. Discuss what's acceptable & what's not as a unit.
š± It's OK to take time out. It's OK to be you & not wear a mask. Masks are exhausting.
š± As above, it's OK to not be the life & soul of the party. It's also more than likely that in social situations all eyes are NOT on you because you have an eating disorder (past or present) if anything, many will be happy you made it & also many will be enjoying the company around them.
š± Do the best that you can do. There is no right or wrong. But I guarantee you this - kindness, compassion & communication will be key.
I send much love.
Right, going for a lie down!
Merry 'Every day' loves, we've got this! ā¤
