I love wine. Wine is beautifully complex, incredibly comforting, and seemingly gets better with time. It is a glass of liquid art. Encapsulated within it is an invitation to slow down — an invitation to appreciate the details. Unlike other drinks, wine demands we experience the conversation between the senses and the soul, turning a simple moment into an extraordinary act of joyful slowness. 2024 has made me realize my friends are kind of like a good glass of wine — beautifully complex, incredibly comforting, and seemingly getting better with time. Like wine, they remind me to slow down, savor the moment, and appreciate the richness of connection. Seek friends that make you slow down and appreciate life. Have a cup of coffee on a Sunday afternoon together. Laugh a little. Or maybe a lot. Go to church. Get brunch. Play beach volleyball after. Sit and talk as they pour out their heart to you. Or just be present and listen. Give hugs constantly. Compliment endlessly and actually mean it. Smile often.
