As a child, growing up in Texas, I never got to play with Barbies. Mostly because from an early age I learned it wasn’t okay for a child born male to play with anything other than trucks, cars and toy guns. So, I never asked, never disturbed the fragile binary. I made myself smaller to make everyone feel comfortable. When I found out I had the power within myself to exist without apology, I never looked back. Nobody’s opinion of how I chose to present mattered, I stopped being afraid. Drag has allowed me so much freedom along with the chance to live out my childhood dreams in the most full circle way.
