Late last year, Indonesia had very successful inaugural @cupofexcellence competition; which @rickydyson was lucky enough to take part in judging.
Indonesia is a diverse, beautiful and exciting country spanning over more than 17,500 islands. The coffee grown here is diverse and unique as the people and landscape and this coffee is no exception.
Mama Yukir inherited the land from Pole in 2000 and planted S795, high yielding and leaf rust resistant hybrid of S288 x Kent to replace the old Typica variety plants on the farm. In 2014 Mama Yukir and Pole received additional support from @toduricoffeeid and were able to improve their overall quality with communication, financial aid and their natural curiosity of the crop they had been working with for so long.
At the time of harvest, the ripe cherries are floated to sort out any unripe cherries and any foreign materials before moving to covered patios to slowly dry and turned frequently to allow for consistent drying. The drying process is slow in the cool mountain air allowing a somewhat long fermentation to take place before the coffee reaches a more desirable moisture content where it is then ready for hulling and export. In this case, straight to entering the @cupofexcellence.indonesia competition.
An incredibly clean, layered and brilliantly sweet coffee that is sure to help shift any previously negative perspective one might have of Indonesian coffees means we're darn excited to share it with you.
