Whitechapel Gallery is pleased to announce Moving Bodies, Moving Images, opening on 12 October. This exhibition brings together films made in the last decade by contemporary artists who explore the intersection of dance, choreography and moving image.
Artists include Alexandra Bachzetsis (@alexandra.bachzetsis), Pauline Boudry / Renate Lorenz (@boudrylorenz), Eglė Budvytytė in collaboration with Marija Olšauskaitė and Julija Steponaitytė, Eric Minh Cuong Castaing (@ericminhcuong), Alia Farid (@alia_farid), Hetain Patel (@patelhetain), Bárbara Wagner (@barbarawagner__) and Benjamin de Burca (@benjamindeburca), and Alberta Whittle (@purebred.mongrel).
The individual works explore timely topics ranging from gender politics and desire to bodily memory, resistance, personal healing and shared identities.
Pictured here is Hetain Patel’s film Trinity (2021), inspired by the artist's fascination with comic books and superhero stories as a child, which provided a framework through which to fantasise about having agency and power to escape racial abuse.
