The award is the highest award in Jamaica and it recognizes the top athletes based on their performance in the calendar year. Fowler a silver medalist from the Commonwealth Games with her Sunshine Girls Team and 5 times in a row player of the year in the Suncorp Super Netball League is nominated alongside some other fantastic women including 100m World Champion and Diamond League winner Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, 200m World Champion and Diamond League winner Shericka Jackson, and Double Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist Elaine Thompson Herah .
