Joe McKenna asks Véronique: What's your fondest memory of working with Azzedine Alaia? Azzedine has the luxury of searching for and even touching perfection, which is so much more worthy than looking for trendiness. What I learned after working closely with Azzedine is observation. I learned, above all, to look at and understand the body mechanics. What I liked most about Azzedine's creative process is that he dissects clothes. Pieces are thought out in 3D, not only visualised as sketches. Moreover, caring about the attitude while constructing the piece has always been in my mind thanks to Azzedine. This is what he taught me. What really interests me in fashion is the developmental process of the pieces themselves and controlling each step of the process. I would say that my vision of fashion is more artistic than commercial, and this might be a part of Azzedine Alaia's heritage. Photo Ola Rindal Collages Patrick Waugh
