THAT NIGHT MARARA KELLY PLAYED IN MY TOWN 💘 This is the title of the last group of pieces produced by the enchanted world of Marara Kelly, also my diploma pieces in @ecal_ch. There’s really a lot to be said about it, most of all from me and hopefully from others too. I have a lot of people to thank for these works to exist and I really love to be talked about (centre of attention pathology). I learned how to be na boca do povo - at the ppl’s mouth - not by intention but by condition: it’s happening, people are talking about me. Thankfully I work with this, and I love my work. But this is not what I was planning to say. I was thinking about tell you a story (lá vem, here it comes...). Once I was in a bar and a person said to me: But Marara isn’t a performance, right? What she was trying to insinuate is that the dialogue that I was producing by the time in the surface of internet in order to make Marara exist wasn’t something legitimate by a series of codes, theories, judgements related to the art world. She was trying to say that Marara isn’t political enough, or it’s shapes wasn’t artistic enough. By the time, I didn’t know where we were going, me and Marara. So I end up answering my classical one: but what’s a performance? Because I do care a lot about these codes, theories and jugements of the art world. I study them. And when someone is trying to talk to me about performance I like to begin by that to see where we can go. Marara is not a performance, because she’s not only a performance. She exist is in a series of performances called Marara Kelly Art Show. She exists in many djsets, in SoundCloud, instagram, YouTube. I’m pretty sure many of you had already met her in a party. It’s not always that she is with me, but when do so it’s really very much fun. Marara teaches me a lot about fun. She’s having her time. She’s taking her space. She teaches me how to make an art which makes place for the funny, the ridiculous, the brega (kitsch). Fortunately she could teach these art-music world all of this, but it depends if she would want to... As far as I know, Marara wants to play. And she will play again her press conference tomorrow 28/06 at @ecal_ch 17h. 💋
