My amazing dad and I had a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) application party on our recent trip to Italy! In this video am putting on the Abbott Freestyle Libre and he is wearing the Dexcom G6. Both do the same thing (monitor glucose) but slightly different features of each. For the Libre, I hold my phone up to the sensor to transfer glucose data over, and for the G6, it sends the data automatically via bluetooth. Both take automatic readings every few minutes. The Libre is worn for 2 weeks and the G6 is worn for 10 days before removing and replacing. Both don’t hurt. The G6 has a slightly longer filament that goes under the skin (compared to Libre which is 4mm filament length) and goes at an angle instead of perpendicular to the skin. Levels members have the option of either device. My dad has been using CGM for several years since I became a co-founder of @levels and is still learning a ton about what foods and food combinations work best for him. He’s a rockstar at 76 years old and crushed a week-long trekking trip in the Dolomites with me in September, with several days of 10+ mile hikes and 2,000 feet elevation gain! Beast! Watching my dad, it’s clear to me that healthspan and longevity is SIMPLE, but not EASY. Meaning, the ingredients are straightforward, but implementation takes discipline. He is an amazing healthy cook (cooks organic plant rich meals nightly), goes to the farmers market and knows a bunch of farmers in town, works out consistently, uses Oura and Apple Watch to track sleep, takes supplements, is constantly engaged in intellectually stimulating activities, is very social, has a deep sense of purpose, and most important knows how to have FUN! He’s one of the most active people I know - golf, Peloton, sailing, hiking, paddle boarding, lifting, biking, kayaking, etc. And CGM is one small piece of the puzzle to stay on track! What questions do you have about CGM? 👇🏻
