It's Giving Tuesday and we want to draw attention to a non-profit that is doing tremendous work to cultivate a future generation of passionate cheese professionals. The @annesaxelbylegacyfund was founded last year after we lost our dear friend, mentor, and muse Anne Saxelby. Anne's vision was to highlight the amazing work happening in the American Cheese Industry by stocking and preaching about the many wonderful cheesemakers we have here at home. From behind her counter at Chelsea Market, she won hearts and minds through the power of cheese. To honor her memory, Anne's family began the ASLF as a means to help give young people the opportunity to experience the cheese industry firsthand. This year, we were thrilled to host four apprentices from the program. Through the summer they got to work with animals, learn the ropes of affinage, and how to reach out to the community and share their passion. We want to see the ASLF thrive and become the gateway for these young folks to fall in love with the craft (and the hard work) that goes into making delicious cheese.
