"There are so many reasons I shoot film, but mostly because it's fun! It makes me think instead of mindlessly clicking away, saves time in front of the computer and—90% of the time—the photos that stick in my memory and matter are the ones I took the time to capture on film.
"I've been working on capturing night launches from Cape Canaveral for the last year or so, all on digital until now. For this one, I set my exposure to bulb and f/22 to keep it in focus, and used a cable release, leaving the shutter open for 2 minutes. The rocket trail did the rest!
"I've seen numerous photos of night launches, but they are almost always digital. I thought it would be cool to try to capture the trail and the shimmer on the ocean on film with my Hasselblad (my go-to camera). I love the challenge of a fully manual experience.
"Have fun and capture the things that matter to you. Chasing trends and others' visions might get a lot of likes, and you can certainly learn from it, but ultimately your images should speak for you.
"My favorite part of the image is how placid the ocean looks (it wasn't) and the reflection of the light in the dark of night."
