Stepping into Budapest’s Central Library transports to another time. Wenckheim Palace, which was built by Hungarian aristocrat Count Frigyes Wenckheim, was purchased by the city council and repurposed as a library in the early 1930’s. Most visitors first come upon the maze-like stacks of the library’s modern annex before entering the palatial reading rooms, a stunning example of neo- baroque architecture.
