Upper arm bands are all the rage this spring and where else to look for inspiration than Indian Jewelery traditions ... right on cue this stunning bazuband comes up for auction at Christie’s this week in Arts of the Islamic and Indian Worlds on March 31st. Diamond and enamelled gold centred on a carved emerald, Mughal style, the jewel belonged to Maharani Jindan Kaur , wife of Ranjit Singh so it has a great provenance too. I fell in love with Indian jewels and jewelled arts and was lucky to have worked on Beyond Extravagance with the ineffable Amin Jaffer cataloguing the contemporary Indian jewels in the superlative Al Thani collection .. no one understood jewels or how to wear them with such innate style more than the Maharajahs and their wives ..
