According to a report from the Post, Madeline Barker, the 47-year-old who was caught on camera pepper spraying four Asian women while screaming “Go back where you came from! Go back to your country!” is set to be released from Rikers Island prison. Under a new bail application proposed by the district attorney’s office and Barker’s defense attorneys, prosecutors have agreed to drop her $20,000 bail requirement. The new bail application was approved by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michele Rodney. Barker will now be under the supervision of The Women’s Project, an alternative to pre-trial detention and incarceration. Earlier this month, Manhattan DA Bragg announced the indictment of Barker and charged her with 12 hate crime charges — eight counts of assault in the third degree as a hate crime and four counts of aggravated harassment in the second degree, a misdemeanor hate crime. She pleaded not guilty to all charges despite the attack being caught on camera. Barker, who is of Puerto Rican descent, is due back in court on October 27, according to her inmate records.
