marriage protection passed today. i wasn’t holding my breath and i'm not rejoicing – not more than I rejoice every ordinary day (which to be fair - is a lot) because i already knew! i already knew that my love is holy and glorious and a sacrament not just to be protected but to be lauded, admired, savored, studied for clues and sung about from the mountaintop. we are the easiest fact. a sure thing. observable, provable, repeatable, even. the courtroom is the only room where queer love struggles for equality. in every other room straight couples watch us grabbing for each others’ hands. wondering if one day, their love might be equal to ours. so it’s not my big day. nothing was decided about me, here in this room. today all that was revealed is the character of some lawmakers in that room. i’m happy for them. they seem to be capable of knowing obvious things! i wish them love like mine. but I don’t know anything today I haven’t known in my bones in my home in my bed in my kitchen forever. i wasn’t holding my breath. i breathe deep and free and easy, with her. we knew. we know. you do, too. . this is Abby and me kissing at the front altar of the vatican, when God showed up to bless us, because She knows.
