“Sunday” oil paint through and through on canvas. I painted this last year around this time! What a year it’s been for my art :)) I named it Sunday, to pay homage to the ritual of care, patience, and reverence. Sunday is more than a day, it’s a practice. In this moment, the young girl sits still, her roots tended with the same devotion passed down through generations. Each stroke of the comb is an act of worship, a quiet homage to the lineage of Black women who have braided, parted, and nurtured more than just hair.
