Valérian Mazataud started photography with the desire to better understand the world by analysing it through the prism of the image.
A taste for stories that he develops in "Liwa Mairin", a photo book inspired by the legend of the mermaid of the Miskitos.
"The Miskitos are indigenous people from the jungle of Honduras who live by scuba diving. They harvest lobsters and sea cucumbers that are exported to Asia and the United States. The risks of this profession have already killed several hundred of them and paralysed thousands more. Divers see in this the curse of Liwa Mairin, an elemental spirit who is both goddess and demon, who watches over her aquatic domain and punishes those who abuse these treasures...".
A tale that he illustrates with poetry, on the borders of realism and dreamlike.
