1972-2022: Celebrating 50 years since the first official Pride March in London. 50 years ago being gay could get you fired and a public kiss could put you in danger. The group who marched from Trafalgar Square to Hyde Park were brave pioneers in LGBT+ equality. They marched for their fundamental human rights to live, work and love. Over the decades, a lot has changed in attitudes, visibility, and in the law. Pride have evolved along the way too. For many, it remains a protest and an important opportunity to highlight injustice around the world. Some countries have made huge strides in rights and freedoms. But others have slid into reverse. In every part of the world, more needs to be done. That’s why the UK is standing up for fundamental human rights and supporting LGBT+ communities worldwide. This weekend FCDO staff will be marching in the Pride parade in London and all around the world, our embassies and missions have also been supporting local pride activity.
