In honor of National Pet Obesity Awareness Day, I may as well repost the video that turned Dexter into a Tiktok sensation 🤦🏼‍♀️ When I posted this video last year it went viral, (which was exciting!)...until everyone started pointing out how overweight Dexter was 🙄 (who knew there were so many veterinarians on Tiktok these days) 😒 As annoying as it was to read so many comments about Dexter’s weight (including a few that were just downright mean for no reason), I knew they were right..... After he got neutered, Dexter had turned into a lil chonky boy weighing in at 21 lbs. He’s always been very healthy & active, but his vet recommended getting him down to under 18 lbs. She was worried about future health complications that could occur from being overweight - particularly pancreatitis & bone/joint troubles (both common in overweight italian greyhounds) ☹️ He’s always gotten an adequate amount of exercise, so we knew that in order to get his weight down, we had to focus on his diet. We began measuring out every one of his meals to ensure that he was consistently eating the correct amount of food. We also started cutting treats in half whenever we rewarded him for something (which I’m sure he was pissed about) 🥲 My chonky boy slowly began losing some of his chonk, & today he weighs in at 17 lbs! Not only is he as happy & healthy as can be....he also hasn’t gotten fat shamed on social media in months❤️
