I am having a Special Boilermaker today, in honor of Rodney Graham. Around 2010 or so, I approached him to invite him to an exhibition where the works were all cocktails. He sent a few ideas, and then settle on this one. He noted that his version was some kind of performance: The bartender/mixologist should serve it as follows: open the beer (something cheap and it should be a can, not bottle), take a gulp (approximately 1 once) and then pour the shot in. Rodney was a real reference for me. His work was conceptually based, but very down to heart, romantic, personal, yet sharp and intelligent.
