@realdlhughley, this shows zero accountability. The video you posted is spreading hateful and ignorant misinformation about Chinese food and Chinese restaurants. The cat shown in the dated video was most likely intended for a school or university for dissection and study. Instead, the video includes text that says “they found cats in vacuum seal packs behind a Chinese restaurant.” The person in the video is heard saying, “man y’all better not be eatin’ no food from these Chinese restaurant [...] I’m not eatin’ no more Chinese food.” The video ends with search results of someone who searched for “what does cat meat look like.” The caption you included with your post hashtags it with #chinesetakeout. Now, you’ve got people commenting on your post making derogatory comments about Chinese people and Chinese food. Asian people grow up in America being haunted by questions like, “Do you eat cat?” Asian businesses struggle, and some have closed, because of unfounded rumors that their chicken is really cat meat. All of this is rooted in xenophobia. Asian people and businesses are still reeling from the effects of the pandemic — people boycotted Asian restaurants and establishments, and anti-Asian attacks began to surge, all because of false information that we started the pandemic. Your post only adds to the countless stereotypes that fuel anti-Asian hate. As you said, D. L., YOU reposted the video. And now, even after many in the Asian *and* Black community have commented to say how offensive and racist the video is, YOU are choosing to leave the video up while ignoring all accountability. You’re a 59-year-old man with a successful career as an actor, comedian, media personality, and author. You’ve got two NYT best sellers and a Peabody Award. You don’t need to post asinine videos for social media clout. I’m calling on you to delete the video and do better because I believe you can. -Wei #DLHughley #StopAsianHate #VeryAsian
