The Chicago Marathon has been on the bucket list for as long as I can remember. It’s the one marathon I’ve forever dreamt of running. And this year I had the chance to fulfill that dream.
But..
Over the last few months I’d been training for the race. Trying to get deep into marathon training, at the same time as building a Start Up and running a company. I found myself in a familiar position of trying to do everything at once. The same position that I was in when I suffered Relative Energy Deficiency Syndrome, lost my menstrual cycle and was mentally unwell. A position I swore I would never put myself in again.
So I had to make some calls. Sometimes you have to sacrifice things you love to prevent sacrificing your health. Sometimes you have to pull back now to keep pushing forwards later. And sometimes you just have to remember why you do all you do. For the health it brings your body and happiness it brings your mind. So in order to keep things healthy, I’ve pulled the pin on the marathon. My energy output needs to match my energy input and if that’s out of whack, I know change needs to happen. And as much as it sucks, I’m grateful I know that now.
Your body and your mind should always come first. Short term success will never outweigh long term health.
The finish lines can wait. ✨✨✨
