Edited to add: *A* Best Book of 2022. Plenty of amazing books came out this year & STAR CHILD is one of many. Octavia E. Butler would’ve been 75 this year. I started working on this book in 2013. Sold it in 2015. Since then, she’s received her flowers as an ancestor. So glad to be part of a community that celebrates her contribution to the sci-fi genre and literature as a whole. STAR CHILD is written for young readers because in 1957, Butler was a 10-year-old Black girl living in Pasadena, reading old comic books, and working on her novel about telepathic horses who got their magic from fallen stars. #octaviabutler
