#Repost @santati_then_now_next Kullvi Naati By @kullvi_whims The Gaddi community of pastoralists in the Himachal region of the Indian Himalayas create shawls with local sheep wool, with a very specific repertory of geometrical motifs. This tradition is popularly referred to as Pattu weaving. This textile marks a departure in its size as well as a use of patterns with human figures. In light of chemical dyeing becoming a cheaper and faster alternative recently, the possibility of continuing with local natural fibres and yarn colourants has become the focus of several organisations and design studios such as the one involved in this commission. This can also ensure that other cultural aspects of the life of the makers of such fabrics is not disrupted negatively.
