Tis’ the season for SEASONAL DEPRESSION 🤪 If you’re like me and live in a climate with long dark winters, you may have heard of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). It can triggered by the change of seasons and most commonly begins in late fall. Symptoms include feelings of sadness, lack of energy, loss of interest in usual activities, oversleeping and weight gain. Ways to fight of SAD may include: • Light therapy: Bright light therapy, using a special lamp, can help treat SAD. • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): a type of talk therapy. Research has shown it effectively treats SAD, producing the longest-lasting effects of any treatment approach. • Spending time outdoors: Getting more sunlight can help improve your symptoms. Try to get out during the day as much as possible. Also, increase the amount of sunlight that enters your home or office. Open those blinds! • Vitamin D: A vitamin D supplement may help improve your symptoms. I use @maryruthorganics for myself and my daughter! How I personally fight SAD for myself and my family: 1. Include more fortified foods high in vitamin D. 2. Go outside as much as possible even in the cold weather. Be prepared with proper clothes for you and your family. 3. Incorporate supplements such as Vitamin D and immune-boosting ones (no one wants to be sad and sick!). I personally use MaryRuth’s drops and gummies. 4. Use my SAD light every morning when it is still dark. I also have plant lights throughout my house that help book the overall mood of my home. 5. Hold tight to my support system, plan play dates for myself and my daughter, and be open to talking about how I am feeling. DM “light”, “supplements” or “cold weather” for information on those topics or how to directly implement them into your lives!
