Alright, i admit it. I bought this book because i fell for the cover. AND the title. Don’t tell me that you don’t find it intriguing. I didn’t even look further into the blurb before deciding to go ahead with the purchase.
It is by no means a work of literature. Witty and full of sarcastic observations of society (particularly of the elite class), i find this to be a great holiday read. Though, you mind want to be mindful of displaying the book cover in public, as it may arouse suspicion!
In anger, Grace spent her teenage years planning on a revenge to murder her father and his family for abandoning her mom and refusing to acknowledge her as his daughter.
Grace isn’t the usual unlikable narrator (at least not for me). Though i found her annoying and definitely more narcissistic as the chapters went on, there’s a huge part of me that was rooting for her.
Sure, there are some plot holes and there are definitely characters and parts of the book that weren’t fully fleshed out, but if you don’t read this as a full-on thriller, but as a comedic thriller instead, it makes those bits more forgivable.
Usually, with these types of plots, there will be a certain moral of the story, so i expected that it wouldnt end with a fairytale happy ending. I can’t say i fully saw THIS ending though.
Without divulging any spoilers, let me just say that i love how this book summarizes how patriarchy inflitrates part of society in the most minute way, from start to finish.
I liked the subtle, between the lines commentaries, while the obvious lines may seem rather trite.
A light-hearted read on a fairly heavy theme, this one. Nice one, @mackie_bella !
