I hope as you scrolled though your feed today that this post and its startling red stopped you in your tracks because this book, the author, and the book’s main character deserve to be recognized. “The stars glimmer above her. They gleam under the gaze of people like Grace, searching for meaning in their formations. They are doing their best for all the people that stare up at the dark and do not know that they, too, shine brilliantly.” Goodness this book is beautiful! The language is drinkable. Dreamy. I’m making a fool out of myself as I attempt to describe this book, but no matter. I don’t ever reread books and as soon as I finished reading this one, I began again. ➡️Swipe Right for the Goodreads Synopsis. The Gist: Dr. Grace Porter is a 28-year-old recent graduate with a PhD in astronomy, but despite being an outstanding candidate she can’t seem to find a job. Wanting to leave her problems behind, even if only for one weekend, she goes on a graduation celebratory trip to Vegas only to wake up with a wedding ring on her finger and lingering champagne memories of a beautiful girl who’s name she can’t remember. This story follows Grace as she carves out a life for herself in search of true happiness. I loved that this story was balanced between Grace’s personal life with her dad, between her growing love life, and in her pursuits of a career. Finally, a story about a modern woman who cares about her career! This story also addresses mental health and the struggles that Black women face in white male-dominated career fields. I liked the dreamy feel to Grace’s interactions with her wife, the tie-in with mythical creatures, and the language surrounding the gravitational pull of friendships and soulmates. “Maybe Plato knew something we didn't. Or maybe the gods did, when they split us in half and left us to reclaim our missing fragments.” I loved this book!
