A $210,000 Home Library Renovation Over a Decade in the Making — @wsj A look at why the “1920s-meets-‘Mad Men’ ” creation in Akron, Ohio, was worth the wait. “It was to conjure a 1920s-meets-‘Mad Men’ vibe,” says the homeowner. While the scope outlined the entire home, there was one space in particular that needed special attention—the library, which the homeowner recalls had dated wall-to-wall carpeting and dingy plaster walls. “It hadn’t been touched in decades and was far from an inspiring place to work,” says Morgan. In a bid to start afresh, Morgan and Laouari gutted the library down to the studs and set about developing a jewel-box-like space characterized by natural materials. “The objective for the room, as for the entire house, was to create a setting that felt original to the structure,” says Morgan. He and Laouari played with proportions, opting for furniture and accents at various heights to serve as counterpoints to one another.
