This project was so special to me for a couple of reasons - it was the first time I had been on set with so many Latinos. We were in community with our music and language flowing. Happily sharing stories and celebrating the gathering of so many of us in one place. It was also the first time I had been a part of a shoot that hispanic archetypes were honored in the story telling. I am half Guatemalan with indigenous blood that flows through me and it gave me chills to see its beauty being celebrated and honored. I felt so connected to my ancestors and with love, we honor those that have come before us and celebrate their lives, gifts and sacrifices. @isabel_carolinaaa thank you again and again x 🇬🇹
A note from the director/photographer @isabel_carolinaaa
When I ponder identity, I imagine two different realities that co-exist in tension within my soul: the experience of my immigrant parents, who fought for a better life for their children, and my experience as a first generation Latina raised in Los Angeles. My parent’s sacrifice gave me a foundation of security, enabling me to evolve and expand my way of living, working and creating. This is an experience — and at times a burden — that many immigrants face. The archetypes of the immigrant experience serve as a palette for future generations to transform. Our privilege to express ourselves is made possible by the humble and hard work of our living ancestors.
