Three pieces of advice to start shooting pro-time-lapses! With @fastlane.89 / “I started hiking during the pandemic as it was a way to get out of my comfort and learn more about myself. In addition, I have always been passionate about art and used to draw all the time as a kid. But photography as a form of art was not something accessible to me as a kid and not something I saw many people in the community I grew up doing.
However, one day I met a friend out hiking - @natethaaaagreat - and inspired me to pick up a camera and shoot the beauty I had been enjoying out in nature. Seeing that Nate was from the same cultural background and into photography also inspired me and gave me the confidence to move forward with photography. Over a year ago, I bought my first camera and have been in love with this art form ever since.
(1) One of the most important things to capture time-lapses is how you set up everything. I always use a 1 to 2 seconds interval when lapsing, this gives me more photos in post to edit, but it also allows me to speed up and slow down clips with little jitter and creates a smoother scene. If I use a 1-second interval, 300 photos will give me a 10-second video at 30 fps. So clouds that are moving fast should have a one to two seconds interval. On the other hand, slow-moving scenes such as a flower bloom require longer intervals, several minutes or even hours apart.
(2) If you can add motion to the time-lapse, try it. The camera remains stationary for a normal time-lapse. But you can make your videos more attractive by moving the camera while shooting the image sequence using a motorized tilt head and slider. This tool will allow you to shoot smooth shots as the camera moves slowly, showing a dynamic landscape.
(3) Think about which song you would like to add to your next time-lapse before the actual shoot. Adding music to a video can make it more enjoyable. For that, the music should go hand-in-hand with the action, so you have to meet the tempo.” @nomadict: Feel free to share your thoughts and advices as well so everyone can learn nomads! ✨⬇️
