Before meeting Lili’uolani I thought Hawaii was a state that was just beautiful and expensive to vacation to. I had no clue about the dark and tragic history of this Island. Learning such truths I wanted to make sure to honor her land and her people as they graciously hosted us for that time. Concious tourism. Making sure to give back just as much as we took. So we volunteered at a local Taro Patch @kakoooiwi and it was one of the most fulfilling feelings I’ve had in a long time. I’m an island girl, from the country side. Keeping my hands busy + getting them dirty is a way of life for me. My island has different customs and dialect, but the energy, community, and way of life made me feel right at home. Hawaii was so beautiful I cried at times driving around taking in those lush mountains and valleys. This trip was not about self indulgence but remembering to think bigger then ourselves. That what you put out shall always find it’s way in.
