what do we look to? This is movement three of a piano solo work I am currently composing titled, “see our beauty.” It is a work surrounding LGBTQ+ issues. This movement specifically about the lack of representation of the LGBTQ+ community. Heterosexual and cisgender stories have been told for decades. Until recently, they were the only stories told. For me personally, growing up without this representation made me feel as if I was abnormal for being gay. Homosexual couples were never shown, and heteronormativity hurt me. This is the collective experience of so many queer identifying people. Coming to college and being around people like me has truly opened my eyes to the beauty of diversity and seeing yourself represented. The climax of the pieces portrays this. So happy to be happy and in a place where composing this work is full circle for me. More to come soon :)
