One of the many natural wonders along Panorama Route in South Africa, the Three Rondavels are aptly named for their similar shape to traditional ovular African huts, also called rondavels. The round pointed peaks were once known as the three wives of the chief, represented by the flat topped peak on the right. Over time, the erosion of soft rock left only exposed quartzite and shale seen today. The view from this trio of peaks is considered the best one in South Africa.
