We are pleased to announce that @Qualeasha Qualeasha Wood’s “Foreva by Cardi B”(2021) has been acquired by the Museum Of Fine Arts, Houston @mfahouston. The work will live on the third floor of the museum's new Nancy and Rich Kinder Building in a gallery called “The Collective,” which is dedicated to multimedia works with broad social commentary. This tapestry debuted at her solo showing at last year's @ArtBasel Miami Beach 2021 with Kendra Jayne Patrick @gallerykendrajaynepatrick. 💅🏾✨💅🏾 In 2016, @iamcardib Cardi B released a single called “Foreva,” a song based on a viral moment from her time on Love and Hip Hop, New York wherein she declared that if “a girl have beef with me, she gon have beef with me foreva.” Cardi’s immortalization of shady critique in the form of rap ingenuity highlights a delicate relationship between the artist and their number one fan: the critic. In “Foreva by Cardi B” Qualeasha directly addresses her critics, utilizing a screenshot of a tweet sent to her that reads “You can’t call people ‘narcissists’ while building a whole career on selfies.” Wood engages directly with this critique, which mimics those that society typically levels at women who profit from their own image. Like Cardi, Wood uses the insult as a point of departure from which she reclaims and fortifies both her image and intention in her practice.
