Four pieces of advice to discover your style and sustainably incorporate it into your branding! With @charlysavely / "As a photographer, you’re constantly in this cycle of inspired, uninspired, burnt out, inspired, and it can make you feel like you’re going crazy sometimes. But at the end of the day, it’s always worth it. Being outside and taking photos is the healthiest thing for me, it’s when I feel most alive. And if you’re living out your passion, it’s hard to complain about that. In this sense, to make a living as a photographer, finding your style and incorporating it into your branding is crucial. Here are three simple steps to get started: (1) Try different styles: To find your style, focus on finding what feels true to you. You need to do a lot of experimenting, trial and error, practicing and learning, trying different color palettes, and figuring out what kind of light you like. Trying it all is how you find your style. (2) Remember that the palette of colors you use is also part of your brand. But you also have the freedom to do anything, and you can choose to work without a specific color palette and photograph any colors. (3) Experiment with the style you initially like and keep developing it: Some people get into photography and have a natural eye, so they know how they want things to look. But for me, it took years of experimenting. I had phases when my work was super desaturated and then stages where it was super dark and moody, and now I look back, and I’m like “Oh, I hate it”. But experimenting helped me to learn and figure out what I like. And even now, my style will continue to evolve. (4) Embrace changes: I’d say my style changes every six months just a little bit as I learn and grow and my taste transitions. Embracing those changes, and incorporating them into your images and branding, is something I also do.
