✨REJECT hyper-consumption and a fast-paced trend cycle— instead, SUBVERT trend culture to focus on creativity and personal style.✨
Let’s not ignore the elephant in the room— although fashion week is a beautiful time to spotlight the work of brilliant designers, it can also reinforce problematic notions of how fashion “should” be consumed, specifically around trends (which, in turn, fuels fast fashion).
Here are my words of advice to consume trends responsibly this fashion week:
GO SECONDHAND— whether that’s shopping at your local thrift store, swapping with a friend, or supporting platforms like @VestiaireCo where you can buy + sell secondhand fashion.
UPCYCLE! Waste is a tremendous issue in fashion, so think about the ways you can upcycle, or wear designers that actively upcycle as a part of their design process. Which brings me to the last tip;
SUPPORT THE SUSTAINABLE UNDERDOGS doing things right: from ethical labor standards, environmentally conscious textiles, to small-scale production. These are the fashion vanguards we need to support.
