My Popo passed away on July 19th. Next week we are sending my Popo to her final resting place next to my Gong Gong, who passed away in February. I guess she was in a hurry to be by his side... Their love was admirable. My grandparents were married for 66 years and I hope to have a happy, adventure filled love story like they did. I’m happy they are together again. My Popo was kind, patient, strong and beautiful (a super model, scouted for Eaton’s!) She was the definition of grace.. a real fashionista.. and most importantly, she was always supportive of me. She encouraged me through my events and fashion shows and more recently, she helped me cut out all my patterns for my clothing brand before I returned to Morocco. (There were a lot of patterns... and she helped me while she was doing chemo) 💪🏾 She was the best cook! Always making sure I had a lot to eat when I came over and when it was spot prawn season, she always peeled my shrimp (cos I don’t like getting my fingers dirty lol) 🦐 and after every family meal, she wouldn’t send us home empty handed. We’d go home with lots of left over food and an Estée Lauder or Clinique care package 😆 She loved her skincare routine, which is why she always looked 45 when she was 70! She was the most generous and she always told me she loved me when we ended our phone calls (which isn’t super common in older generation Asian culture) and that always made my heart feel warm and fuzzy 🥰 I’m really lucky to have been loved by her.
