It’s our 1 year wedding anniversary!!!! It’s mind boggling for me to even see those words written out. Growing up, two men couldn’t even be married legally and I had absolutely no gay role models in my life. I was trapped in a religion that was teaching me to hate myself for being gay and there was definitely no hope for marriage had I stayed in that religion. But here I am today happily married in a healthier more loving relationship than I’ve ever seen most people I know that are or have been married. I heard the first year is supposed to be bliss; the “honeymoon phase.” Well lemme tell ya it hasn’t been pure bliss, but it has been incredible, worth it, filled with so many fun, funny and unforgettable moments as well as some really hard and uncomfortable conversations that have caused us both to mature and grow together. I’m so grateful for all those that support us, especially those that actually made the trip to Brazil to witness what was by far the most beautiful wedding I’ve ever been to in my life 😉 I’m so grateful to have the support of some of my family and friends in this union. Most of all I’m so grateful for my husband, my rock, my confidant, my support, my cheerleader, my best friend and lover. With his support I’ve grown so much. I’m excited for what the future holds, grateful for our past and even though we are thousands of miles apart on our first anniversary, we both know it’s because we are setting up a life of our dreams that we can live out for years to come.
