🐝 Only a few of you know that Lote is severely allergic to bee stings. And I learned it the hard way 2 years ago. If not for the amazing vet, rapid reaction and pure luck, she wouldn’t have been here long ago. Anaphylactic schock started out with a loud scream. On Sunday evening, at my family house where the nearest still open vet clinic was 60km away. Whining and limping she ran to the door asking for help. And in the blink of an eye Lote started deteriorating. Multiple vomiting and diarrhoea episodes, shaking and wheezing followed her cries. She started breathing extremely fast, letting out the weirdest shallow sounds. As minutes went by, her gums became pale and I saw her getting weaker and weaker. Just like that, in 10 minutes. Lote was dying in front of my eyes while no clinic answered the phone. As a last hope, I drove to the local vets house expecting to find her there. And I did. It was pure luck that Lote received the required meds that day. When I carried her to the consultation room, she was already cold with a low blood pressure and blue gums yet still conscious. Dose of epinephrine and steroids stopped the deathly cascade of an anaphylactic schock. Unfortunately, anaphylactic schock can be triggered again and again. Each time faster and more severe. The only thing you can do is be prepared to stop it with carefully calculated doses. 🤞 Needless to say, I carry the syringes and ampoules with me all the time as the thought of enduring such event again never leaves my deepest fears. #poodle #dog #anaphylaxis #anaphylacticshock #beeallergy #beeallergyawareness
