Let’s talk about hair texture changing. Save this one for later its going to be a good one! My guests, came to me unhappy w/ the different textures/curl patterns all over her head. swipe over for before. She has been an avid heat styler for years and although she stopped the frequency of how often, she is not committed yet to wearing her hair curly because she doesn’t enjoy the different curl patterns going on. Let me start by saying I think her hair beautiful and can be rocked just the way it naturally dries with a little product. But she wants her hair to look how it looked years ago, much bouncier more even curls. What’s the culprit for this y’all?! Scream it louder in the back if ya got me! Heat 🔥 It is absolutely true that her hair texture could have changed due to hormones, child birth, water conditions, age all of these are key factors in our hair changing. But I’m here to remind you that years of heat styling your hair straight will slowly deteriorate your cuticle layer eventually destroying your cortex and permanently changing those curls, to lifeless limp locks. Over and over again color, highlights get blamed, and I’m not saying it’s innocent either! You have to know what your doing. But more then likely the highlights will just expose the heat damage that lies underneath. There is no quick fix to this, frequent trims, or big chop and commitment to laying off the heat smoothing is the only regime that has worked for me! The good news is I have lots of ways to embrace and love your texture during this transitional period!! Number 1 is having grace with yourself and knowing that although your curls are not perfect they are still beautiful! I’m also here for you, if your not ready for that journey. Of course I’m curl specialist yes, but I will always meet you where you are at in your journey. One of the hardest things for women to get past when going from a blown straight look to natural is that, the hair won’t look the same everyday, it won’t be uniform, and it won’t look the models you see on Instagram.
