When she isn’t chasing and being chased by camera cars, Sera (@trims440) balances the adrenaline of her professional life by creating sanctuaries via her other love, design. “I don’t know where it happened, but I got really into remodelling properties and just making stuff better,” she says. “The last couple of years, and all through COVID, I did this mid-century modern house.” The house, located in the northern Hollywood area, near Studio City, is one of those urban L.A. myths: an untouched mid-century home needing love and an owner who wants to sell to be lived-in. “I never thought I would find a house like this in Los Angeles,” she says. “I bought it from the son of the architect, out of his trust,” Sera says it was incredibly neglected, but the family’s loss was her gain. “Deferred maintenance would be the understatement of two decades! There was termite damage, wood rot, electrical fire damage, holes in the floor and walls; it was crazy how rotten it was – it was basically a teardown when I got it; a huge undertaking.” A las, the project sparked something inside of her, and now, along with a friend, Sera is setting up a small design studio. “I just love how it involves a more active, different thought process and how a space can make me feel calm,” she says. “We just started doing small design projects. I like to think that maybe one day, if stunt driving comes to an end, I would love to be doing interior design work with my buddy, more kind of collaboration stuff.” Photos by @jackschroedercreative for @type7 Vol.3 Words by @noelleflamingo Part 2/2
