Motivation isn’t a constant thing. When you feel freaking-amazing and the sun is shining, training is fun and easy. But what about going for a long run on a dark, rainy day? Or completing that workout despite your splits being way off your previous best? Navigating through the ebbs and flows of training motivation is part of the challenge. Know that sticking with it when it gets rough will make a difference down the road. My advice for when motivation is flagging? • Don’t compare your split times to the “old you” or others. Focus on executing the workout at the intended intensity based on your fitness level today, not yesterday or the day before. • Give yourself a reward post-workout when you achieved what you set out to achieve. Be it a warm sauna or a hot chocolate. • Be willing to do what’s hard, because most people aren’t.
