Key to Flora’s most dramatic forms is fazzoletto, a 2nd-century glass blowing technique. To create its signature waves, a domed shade is made with a flared edge that is reheated and spun, causing it to increase in diameter with centrifugal force. The molten shade is then spun again upside-down, producing a sinuous edge that resembles the wilting petals of a flower—or, as the name translates from Italian, the folds of a fallen handkerchief.
