MICHAEL SHANNON. Incredible actors make often incredible subjects. I made this color portrait for my friends at @nymag (my mentor @jodyquon) a couple of years back. Michael plays often very intense characters and I wanted to translate that intensity into a portrait - without him being overly dramatic in pose. Using light from underneath is a somewhat risky choice, but in his case I could not resist.... At least in one version. Using a strip light from above. Good fill is essential when using a key from below. As key light 💡 we used a strip, which we narrowed down even further. Camera 📷 was a @nikoneurope with a 85mm lens.
