In my last post, I shared how we manipulate when we have a need + we don’t know how to get that need met. A question that came up in the comments was: “How do I know what my needs are?” So, I created this guide to understanding a need + asking for it to be met. It might take a while of being aware + reflecting to know what your needs are. For example, you may notice when you come home you feel off, slightly anxious, or frustrated. You can’t put your finger on it but after some reflection you realize you need some time to decompress right when you get home. After you know your need, you need to voice it. In this example: the partner is so excited + isn’t aware that you are overstimulate + your nervous system needs a breather. By directly voicing our need, we can give our partner a chance to meet it.
