Merleā€˜s image and bio (c. 1980s) courtesy of David Earle. • • HILARY BROWN-ISTREFI is a Canadian-American choreographer, performer, curator, and teacher, who has a parallel career in nonprofit arts development. Originally from Toronto, now living in Far Rockaway, NY, she is a graduate of École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, and over the last 10 years has performed in the works of international dance and visual artists including Bouchra Ouizguen, Jillian Peña, Melissa Riker, Doug Elkins, Linda Tegg, and Candice Breitz. • • • • • MERLE HOLLOMAN’s extensive dance career began in her hometown of Hartford, CT. While studying at the Hartford School of Ballet, she performed with the Hartford Ballet Company, the Hartt Opera and the Connecticut Opera Association. She has studied with the American Ballet Theatre, the Alvin Ailey School and the Harkness Ballet, among others. She danced for three years with both the Ailey Repertory Ensemble and the Ballet Hispanico (where she also taught), has appeared with the Morelli Choreoground Theater, the Ananda Dancers and performed in ā€œBlack Aliceā€, which later played Broadway.
