Continuing to hold myself and my fellow educators accountable this year! I love working with my son’s teachers and special educators to get what he needs during the school year and beyond. But I also love when my son’s educators are open to hearing and seeing what I and my son have to say about his specific academic needs, accommodations, and care. As a long time design creative and zinester, I’ve been making these special advocacy zines for Knox since he was in the first grade and I haven’t stopped! That’s why I was so stoked to team up with my friend Chelsea, a design creative and fellow Mom to a dope Autistic kid! As each new school year begins so does the continued fight and advocacy for our Neurodivergent kiddos. The zines help to facilitate a space for care and self expression. We’re happy to finally bring them to you! Download, Print, Fold and Share with your kiddos IEP team or teacher(s) These are also fun to give to the school counselor when your kid is having a bad day and needs additional support! The zine has become a great tool to use to help with challenges while navigating a new school year and at times an oppressive system. Just so you know, @chelseaplusco and I aren’t getting paid for this! We’re just two designer mommas making zines for the disability community! We are making these while raising our kids, in between making meals, cleaning poopy butts, giving our kids lots of kisses, and trying to get sleep. As a Neurodivergent momma, it’s my responsibility to continue uplifting the narrative on disability justice, breaking stigmas, and doing all I can do to combat the ableism that exists all around us.
